Lemon Myrtle - Cert. Organic
The fragrant lemon myrtle has a strong refreshing lemon aroma. It is a member of the myrtaceae family (eucalypts), grows native in North Eastern Australia’s coastal rainforests. It can flourish in altitudes from over 50 to 800m above sea level. It is often referred to as Lemon scented ironwood, or Sweet Verbena Myrtle.
Eumundi, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, was the original harvest site of the foliage which was central to export.
Studies have found that lemon myrtle has considerable anti-bacterial qualities and works as an anti-fungal agent, having double the effectiveness of the tea tree. The leaves of lemon myrtle contain more citral (95%) than any other known plant. It is its high citral content which gives the extracted oil its beautiful pungency.
